Marketplace Terms

Draft pending qualified legal review. This page was written in plain language by the CelebIsland team to describe our real, current practices. It has not yet been reviewed by a qualified lawyer and is not final legal counsel. If something here looks wrong, unclear, or out of date, please contact us and we will fix it.

In short:
  • The Market lets members list and buy items directly from each other; CelebIsland provides the listing space, it is not a party to the sale.
  • Right now, payment for a Market order is arranged directly between buyer and seller — commonly bank transfer — because we have not yet switched on an automated card/online payment processor for Market orders.
  • Prohibited items are removed and repeat offenders lose Market access.
  • Disputes are reviewed by our team on request; see the Buyer Protection and Seller Policy pages for what that covers.

What the Market is

The Market is a feature inside CelebIsland where members list items or services for other members to buy. CelebIsland is the venue, not the shop. Every listing is created, priced, and fulfilled by the member who posted it, not by us.

Who can sell

Any member in good standing can create a listing, subject to the seller obligations in our Seller Policy. We can remove a listing or a seller’s Market access at any time for breaking these terms or our Community Standards.

Payment — the honest current state

We are building toward integrated online checkout for the Market. It is not switched on yet. Until it is, payment for a Market order is arranged directly between the buyer and the seller, most commonly by bank transfer, and confirmed by the buyer uploading a receipt. Neither party should treat a listing as paid until that confirmation has happened. Because CelebIsland does not currently hold or move the money in a Market transaction, we cannot automatically refund a Market payment the way we can a Pro subscription payment — disputes are handled by our team stepping in between the two members, as described in our Buyer Protection Policy.

When card or online payment processing for the Market goes live, this page will be updated to describe it before it launches.

Prohibited listings

  • Anything illegal to sell in Nigeria or in the buyer’s country
  • Weapons, ammunition, and explosives
  • Counterfeit or stolen goods
  • Prescription drugs, controlled substances, and medical devices without a licence
  • Live animals and animal parts from protected species
  • Adult content and services
  • Anything else our Community Standards already prohibit

Fees

Creating a standard listing is currently free. Where a paid feature exists (for example, boosting a listing for extra visibility), the price is shown before you pay, and boost payments follow the same current payment process described above and in our Refund Policy.

Disputes

If an order goes wrong, raise it with the other member first. If that does not resolve it, open a dispute from the order or write to support@celebisland.com within 7 days of delivery, or of when delivery was due. See Buyer Protection Policy for how we review these.

Our role

We can remove listings, restrict Market access, and mediate disputes members raise with us. We do not inspect items before they are listed, guarantee any listing is accurate, or guarantee delivery. Buying and selling with another member carries the same basic risks as any person-to-person transaction — use the safeguards in this policy and in Buyer Protection, and report anything that looks like a scam.
