P-Square: I read the whole timeline so you don't have to — and it is sadder than the memes

Ten years, two splits, one family. An honest walk through what is actually documented, and what is just noise.

Every few months P-Square trends again and the same jokes go round. I went and read the actual timeline — Pulse Nigeria published a detailed one in August 2026 — and I came away less amused than I expected.

What is documented

  • 2015 — financial tension over account withdrawals. Jude steps down as manager.
  • 2017 — a leaked video of a heated confrontation. The group splits in September.
  • 2021–2022 — the reunion. They perform together, they release new music, everybody exhales.
  • 2024 — a second split. Peter alleges financial mismanagement.
  • 2026 — fresh allegations, and the dispute is back in public.

Per Pulse, Peter has accused those around the group of "sidelining him, discrediting his contributions and diverting funds," and accused Jude of "betraying his trust." Jude has denied the claims. Paul's camp has maintained that the dispute has been repeatedly misrepresented publicly while the legal and financial disagreements remain unresolved.

There is also the detail that stopped me: Peter changed his birthday from 18 November — the date he shared with his twin — to 30 November. Whatever you think of the business dispute, that is a man drawing a line through something that cannot be redrawn.

Where I land

I want to be careful here, because two brothers accusing each other in public is not a court and neither am I. What I will say is that almost every version of this story, from every side, comes back to the same root: nobody agreed in writing, early, who owned what. Publishing, masters, management fees, touring splits. Twenty years of work and the paperwork never caught up with the money.

That is not a P-Square problem. That is a Nigerian music industry problem, and it is still happening to artistes signing deals this week.

Talk to me

  • Do you still want a reunion, or is it time to let them be solo acts and move on?
  • Who do you think is being unfair here — and are you sure, or are you just picking a side?
  • What should a young artiste put in writing today so this never happens to them?

Timeline and quotations reported by Pulse Nigeria. I have not independently verified the financial allegations, and neither should you.
