Alpha Blondy, born Seydou Koné on 1 January 1953 in Dimbokro, Ivory Coast, is one of Africa's most celebrated reggae stars. His song Brigadier Sabari, drawn from his own arrest and mistreatment by police in Abidjan, became a symbol of resistance. In 1986 he recorded Jerusalem in Jamaica with The Wailers, Bob Marley's band. He sings in Dyula, French and English, and at times in Arabic and Hebrew.
