Winston Hubert McIntosh, known as Peter Tosh, was a Jamaican singer, guitarist and songwriter and a founding member of the Wailers. After leaving the group he built a solo career defined by militant lyrics, releasing Legalize It in 1976 and Equal Rights in 1977. He campaigned openly for cannabis legalisation and against apartheid. His final album, No Nuclear War, won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Recording in 1988. He was shot dead at his Kingston home in 1987.
