Wale, born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin in Washington, D.C. in 1984, is a rapper whose parents are Yoruba Nigerian immigrants. He built an audience through mixtapes in the D.C. area before signing to major labels. His albums The Gifted, released in 2013, and The Album About Nothing, released in 2015, both reached number one on the Billboard 200.
