DRAFT — pending legal counsel review. This is a working draft prepared by the CelebIsland team. It has not been reviewed by qualified legal counsel, is not final, and may change. Items marked [COUNSEL TO CONFIRM] are open questions for counsel.

1. Why these standards exist

CelebIsland is a place for fans, creators, communities and businesses to connect. These Community Standards describe what is and is not allowed in posts, comments, messages, live broadcasts, Airwave rooms, stories, groups, pages, Market listings and every other part of the platform. They apply to everyone, including public figures and CelebIsland staff accounts.

2. Safety

  • Child safety. Any sexualisation, grooming or exploitation of anyone under 18 is prohibited and is reported to the relevant authorities. There are no exceptions for fiction, art or "jokes".
  • Violence and threats. No credible threats, incitement to violence, glorification of violent attacks, or instructions for causing serious harm.
  • Self-harm. We remove content that encourages suicide or self-injury. Content shared to seek or offer support is allowed, and we may show support resources.
  • Dangerous organisations. No support, praise or recruitment for terrorist groups, violent extremist groups or organised criminal networks.

3. Respect for people

  • Harassment and bullying. No targeted abuse, pile-ons, degrading content or repeated unwanted contact.
  • Hate speech. No attacks on people based on ethnicity or tribe, nationality, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or serious disease.
  • Privacy. Do not share someone's private information (home address, phone number, ID documents, private photos or messages) without their consent. Non-consensual intimate imagery is removed immediately and the account is banned.
  • Impersonation. Do not pretend to be another person or organisation. Fan pages are allowed but must clearly say they are unofficial.

4. Integrity and authenticity

  • Fraud and scams. No advance-fee fraud, fake giveaways, fake investment or "doubling" schemes, phishing, or selling fake accounts or followers.
  • Spam and manipulation. No bots, mass unsolicited messages, fake engagement, vote or poll manipulation, or coordinated inauthentic behaviour.
  • Misinformation that causes harm. We may label, limit or remove false content that risks imminent physical harm, interferes with elections or civic processes, or endangers public health. [COUNSEL TO CONFIRM: scope of election-period obligations under Nigerian law.]

5. Adult and sensitive content

  • Nudity and sexual content are restricted. [COUNSEL TO CONFIRM: whether any adult-content area is permitted and under what age-verification controls.]
  • Graphic violence may be allowed for news or awareness purposes behind a warning screen.

6. Intellectual property

Only post content you own or have permission to use. See the Copyright Policy.

7. Regulated goods and activities

No sale or promotion of illegal drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods, stolen goods, human trafficking or unlicensed gambling. See the Marketplace Terms and Games Policy.

8. How we enforce

  • Actions we may take: remove content, reduce its distribution, add a warning label, restrict features (for example live streaming or messaging), suspend an account temporarily, or ban it permanently.
  • How we decide: reports from users, automated detection, and human review. Severity, intent, context and an account's history are taken into account.
  • Strikes: repeated violations lead to escalating restrictions. Severe violations (child safety, credible threats, non-consensual intimate imagery, serious fraud) can lead to an immediate ban without prior warnings.
  • Notice: where it is safe and lawful to do so, we tell you what was actioned and why.

9. Reporting and appeals

Use the Report option on any post, profile, message, room or listing. If we act on your content or account and you believe we got it wrong, you can appeal from the notice you receive or via Contact us. An appeal is reviewed by a different person from the one who made the first decision where possible. [COUNSEL TO CONFIRM: appeal response timeframes.]

10. Changes

We will update these standards as the platform grows. Each change is published here as a new version, and earlier versions remain available in the version history.
