Capleton, born Clifton George Bailey III on 13 April 1967 in Islington, St Mary, Jamaica, is one of reggae's most forceful voices. He took his stage name from a local lawyer known for sharp argument, a fitting inheritance for a deejay built on conviction. Emerging through the dancehall of the early 1990s, he turned toward Rastafarian themes and delivered the albums Prophecy, More Fire and Still Blazin'. His fire imagery and relentless live energy shaped a generation of conscious dancehall.
