My grandpa was born a slave on a Caribbean sugar plantation in 1917, under a regime created by the British called indentured servitude - a new form of slavery.
Britain’s rebranding of slavery in the 1800s created permission for other nations and businesses to continue to exploit slave labour post-emancipation without significant repercussions and proved that the use of “new slaves” could be a viable solution for economies and businesses that hinged on the availability of traditional slave labour.
For many people of color, the Queen’s death is a reminder of this type of historical exploitation and suffering. - #BenSamaroo
